The FP-90 can record your performance as either an Audio File or a Standard MIDI File (SMF).
SMF Recording
The advantage of recording a Standard MIDI File (SMF) is that it can be copied to a computer or other sequencer and then opened and edited as MIDI data. This allows you to fix mistakes, change notes, or use "cut and paste" editing to assemble a track if desired. SMFs contain no audio data, so you can not use this type of file for listening to a performance as you would an audio file (like an MP3).
- Select the tone that you want to play.
- Activate the metronome if desired by pressing the METRONOME button and adjusting the tempo using the SLOW/FAST buttons.
- Press the Record (o) button, then press the Play / Stop button to begin recording.
After a two-measure count is sounded (the measure number in the lower right of the display indicates “-2” and then “-1”), recording starts. Note, You can also start recording by playing the keyboard immediately, and there will be no count off. - When finished with your performance, press the Play / Stop button. Recording will stop, and your performance will be automatically saved.
After recording, you can press the Play / Stop button to hear your performance played back.
Note: Never turn off the power while “Saving...” is shown in the display.
Audio Recording
The advantage of audio recording is that you can copy this file to a computer to be burned to a CD, or uploaded to another playback device (iPod, Smartphone, etc.). There are not as many editing options available as with Standard MIDI Files.
