Keep your RD-2000 up to date to ensure optimal performance and access to the latest features. Details about the changes are provided in the “UPDATE HISTORY” section on the System Program page.
In the following video, you can check the series of operations step by step.
Note: The system program shown in the video is not the latest version, but the procedure is the same.
Please update according to the video or the steps below.
Checking the current version
Before you start, check the system program version of your RD-2000.
- Press the [MENU] button.
- Use the cursor buttons to select "SYSTEM," then press the [ENTER] button.
- Use the cursor buttons to select the INFORMATION tab.
The current version is shown on the display. - After verifying the displayed version, switch off the power.
What you will need to update your RD-2000
- RD-2000
- USB flash drive (sold separately, capacity 32 GB or less)
* The USB Memory should be formatted on a RD-2000. - A computer with a USB connector (Windows, Mac)
Cautions with the update
- We recommend that you back up the RD-2000 settings to a USB memory before you perform the update although RD-2000 keeps the data with normal updating.

- Never apply this update data to any product other than the RD-2000. This update data may destroy the data or system program of other products.

Never power-off your RD-2000 while the update is in progress!
If a power failure or similar accident occurs during the update process, the RD-2000 won't be able to start up in normal operating mode. This will require servicing, so you will need to contact Roland service center near you if this occurs.
Downloading and Unarchiving the Compressed File
- Download the RD-2000 System Program.

Click the "Download File" button to download the system program (rd2000_sys_vXXX*.zip).
Example:
*XXX=Version number
- Unarchive the downloaded file.
- Windows: Right-click the file and click "Extract All", then click "Extract".

macOS: Double-click the file to unzip it.
"rd2000_sys_vXXX*" folder appears.
Example:

Never double-click the files displayed inside the folder after unarchiving or changing the file name.
- Open the "rd2000_sys_vXXX" folder and copy "RD2000_UPA.BIN" to the level displayed immediately on accessing the USB flash drive (the USB flash drive's root directory).
*Never double-click "RD2000_UPA.BIN" displayed inside the folder after unarchiving or changing the file name.
*Be sure not to copy the entire extracted folder.
Update Procedure
- Turn off the power.
- Connect the USB flash drive to the USB MEMORY port.
- Hold down the [WRITE] button and switch on the power to the unit.
Keep pressing the [WRITE] button until “Update Mode- Start update” is displayed. - When the message "Update Mode - Start update" appears, release the button.
The update starts.
When the message " <<< Please POWER OFF >>> " appears, the system update has finished.
* The update takes about five minutes.
* Never switch off the power or detach the USB flash drive until the message " <<< Please POWER OFF >>> " appears. Doing so may damage the unit. - Switch off the unit and detach the USB flash drive.
