This article explains how to install and troubleshoot the USB driver for the BOSS GT-10 on Windows 10. Please note that the GT-10 driver is only compatible with Windows 10 and is not supported on Windows 11 or in virtual environments.
Notes:
- This driver is compatible with Windows 10 only. (Windows 11 is not supported.)
- Windows 10 Mobile and virtual environments (e.g., Hyper-V, Virtual PC) are not supported.
- Mac computers running Windows are not supported.
- The driver will be automatically downloaded and installed when the GT-10 is connected to the Internet-enabled PC.
Driver Installation
- Make sure the GT-10 is powered off and disconnected from the computer.
- On the GT-10, press [SYSTEM].
The SYSTEM MENU screen appears. - Use the dial to select USB, then press [CATEGORY/ENTER].
- Use the dial to change the Driver Mode from Standard to Advanced.
“PLEASE RESTART” message appears. - Turn the GT-10's power off and then back on again.
Before connecting the GT-10, ensure the following:
- Disconnect all unnecessary USB devices except the keyboard and mouse.
- Confirm that the computer is connected to the Internet (e.g., try playing a video on YouTube).
- Close all open applications, including the Control Panel’s “Sound” settings.
- Temporarily disable any antivirus software, as it may interfere with the installation process.
- Turn on the GT-10.
- Connect it to the computer using a USB A-B cable (USB 2.0 port required).
- The driver will install automatically. This may take up to 10 minutes.
To confirm the installation:
- Click Start > All apps > open the Roland/BOSS folder.
- If the GT-10 icon appears, installation is complete.
Troubleshooting
Basic Checks
- Reboot both the GT-10 and the computer.
- Try a different USB cable or port (use USB 2.0 only).
- Avoid USB 3.0-only ports, which may cause issues.
Use Windows Update
- Connect the GT-10 to the computer.
- In the Windows search box, type "update" and select Check for updates.
- Click Check for updates and wait. The driver may install automatically.
Manual Installation
- Turn on the GT-10 and connect it to the computer.
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Go to View > Devices by type.
- Locate GT-10 under “Sound, video and game controllers” or “Other devices.”
- Right-click the GT-10 > Update driver > Search automatically for updated driver software.
- If the message "Windows has successfully updated your driver software" appears, the installation is complete.
- If prompted with a “System Settings Change” dialog, click Yes to restart Windows.
Antivirus Software
If the driver still fails to install, try disabling any antivirus software temporarily and attempt the steps above again.
