The VO-1 supports Send/Return jacks for an Effect Loop that can be used if you want to loop in additional effects connected to the Send/Return. The Send/Return connected pedal effects will only apply to the input instrument audio signal passing through the VO-1, then to output, and on to the guitar amp for example.
NOTE: The connected Send/Return effects will not apply to the mic Vocoder sound audio output.
The output from the VO-1 will be a summed mix of both input instrument audio with the Send/Return Effect applied, then summed with mic Vocoder vocal sound in a parallel effect chain blended mix.
For some different effect chain pedal order scenario examples:
- If you put a BOSS DS-1 in the Send/Return Effect Loop and turn OFF the VO-1 then it will only deactivate the VO-1 effect, if the DS-1 is ON, the sound will still continue to be active and audible, affecting only the input instrument audio.
- If the VO-1 is connected on a pedal board in a series effect chain, and for example a DS-1 is located after the VO-1 output, if the DS-1 is ON, its distortion will influence both instrument and mic input audio signals, thus distorting both mic and instrument audio.
Effect Chain Connection Options for the VO-1:
This is up to user preference and should experiment with each option, and choose which works best for their musical creative goals:
OPTION 1
You could connect using the VO-1 in SERIES before the DS-1 and PREAMP:
GUITAR to => VO-1 to => DS-1 to => AMP.
OPTION 2
In the AMP EFFECTS LOOP:
GUITAR to => DS-1 to => PREAMP - AMP EFFECTS LOOP SEND to => INPUT VO-1 to => AMP
EFFECT LOOP RETURN.
OPTION 3
If you have an AMP EFFECT LOOP: Send/Return, you can connect the VO-1 in 4CM/Four Cable Method.
GUITAR to => INPUT- VO-1 - OUTPUT to => AMP EFFECTS LOOP RETURN
VO-1 SEND to => AMP PREAMP INPUT - AMP EFFECTS LOOP SEND to => VO-1 RETURN.
