Updating the Roland TD-27's system program requires the Roland Cloud Manager app and an SD card. The update process includes a factory reset, so back up any important data to an SD card first.
What you need
- TD-27 sound module
- Roland Cloud Manager app
- SD card (SDHC, up to 32 GB, pre-formatted on the TD-27)
Getting the update file
- Launch Roland Cloud Manager and sign in.
If it is not installed, download it from https://www.rolandcloud.com/Catalog/Essentials/Roland-Cloud-Manager
Signing in requires a Roland Account; if you do not have one, click "Sign up" when the app starts and create an account. - Click "Roland," then "Hardware Instruments" > "Drums & Percussion" > "TD-27." Under the "Upgrade" category, find "TD-27 v2.
Note: Hover over its icon to see the latest available version. - Click the download button to download the update file (a .zip file).
Creating the update SD card
- Extract the downloaded .zip file
This creates a folder containing the update file (a .BIN file).- Windows: Right-click the file and select "Extract All."
- macOS: Double-click the file.
- Copy the .BIN file to the root directory of the SD card (not inside any folder).
After copying, you should see the Roland folder and the .BIN file together in the same view. Make sure the .BIN file is not inside any folder on the SD card. - Eject the SD card safely:
- Windows: Use "Remove Hardware" in the taskbar, then remove the card.
- macOS: Drag the SD card icon to the Trash, then remove the card.
Updating the TD-27
- Turn off the TD-27.
- Insert the update SD card into the TD-27's SD card slot.
- Hold down the [REC] button and turn on the power.
Release [REC] once "=== update === Insert memory..." appears. The update takes about 5 minutes.
"Update finished" appears when done.
Note: Do not turn off the TD-27 during the update. Doing so can damage the unit or cause loss of user data. - Turn off the power and remove the SD card.
- Turn on the power.
"Roland" appears, followed by the INITIALIZE USER MEMORY screen. - Press the [F5] (FACTORY RESET) button.
A confirmation message appears. - Select "OK" and press the [ENTER] button to run the factory reset.
- When "Factory Reset Completed!" appears, press the [F5] (OK) button.
