On the FANTOM a Zone is, in essence, an individual slot, which internally stores a single sound called a Tone, as well as settings related to this sound like volume, transpose, key range, etc.
The Tone is stored inside the FANTOM, and the Zone can therefore manage most of the characteristics that a Tone has, without necessarily having to modify it from the appropriate menu (MENU-EDIT-EDIT TONE). Through the various menus you can edit parameters such as EQ, Pitch, Key Range, Offset (Cutoff, Resonance, Attack, Decay), Velocity, and more, without necessarily having to save a new Tone. (NOTE: any other change outside these parameters requires saving a new tone).
The Zone is itself contained within a Scene, and the FANTOM can accommodate up to 16 Zones, which can be split and used with each other.
Each Zen-Core Tone has 4 Partials, each Partial can be a use a different type of sound source:
- PCM (Composed of the Fantom's internal waveforms)
- VA (Takes advantage of the Fantom's virtual analog sound engine)
- PCM-SYNC (Noise Waveforms, Synths)
- Super Saw (Roland's legendary, one oscillator emulates "the presence of seven sawtooth oscillators detuned against each other")
- Noise (Pure noise synth).
