Impulse Response (IR), in relation to your guitar multi-FX unit or cab simulator, is an audio file that gives you a 'snapshot' of the sound of an amplifier in a specific setup relating to the room, microphone type and/or placement and the cabinet used.
What this means, is that the sound generated under certain circumstances can be accurately recreated using a single audio file (usually a .wav) loaded into your product's speaker simulator or cab simulator.
Using an IR allows you to recall this information as a file that replicates your favorite amp, mic placement and room sound.
The following BOSS products are compatible with IRs:
- BOSS - ME-90 | Guitar Multiple Effects
- BOSS - GX-10 | Guitar Effects Processor
- BOSS - GX-100 | Guitar Effects Processor
- BOSS - GT-1000 | Guitar Effects Processor
- BOSS - GT-1000CORE | Guitar Effects Processor
- BOSS - IR-2 | Amp & Cabinet
- BOSS - IR-200 | Amp & IR Cabinet
It's important to note, that IRs are different from amp modelling. An IR is not tweakable and retains all of the elements of the sound captured at that moment in time. Whereas an amp modeler is versatile in how it can be adjusted. That being said, if you want to recreate the sound of your favorite amp recorded with your favorite microphone in a space that you prefer, IR Loading is the perfect solution.
