You would like to send a MIDI Control Change CC#80 from an external MIDI device, to control the Track 1, PLAY/STOP of the selected Memory, in the RC-500.
Connect the external MIDI device MIDI OUTPUT > to the RC-500 mini MIDI IN, 3.5mm, TRS jack.
If necessary use the BOSS adapter cable: BMIDI-5-35: 5pin to 3.5mm TRS MIDI adapter cable.
Roland BOSS uses 3.5mm TRS MIDI TYPE A, please make sure your external MIDI device is compatible and capable of sending 5pin MIDI or TRS MIDI TYPE A.
Review the following link if unsure.
Only the MIDI INPUT to the RC-500 is necessary for sending it MIDI INPUT data from an external source.
Make sure you're communicating on the right/same MIDI Channel, on the RC-500 as external MIDI device:
Press MENU button > navigate to MIDI > set the RX CTL CH to match the MIDI CH number of the external MIDI device MIDI TX CH#.
The RC-500 default is MIDI CH1 for both MIDI RX/TX.
Program an ASSIGNMENT:
Press MEMORY, scroll to ASSIGN1 and press the MEMORY/VALUE KNOB to select this ASSIGN1.
Set the following parameters:
- ASSIGN1 = ON
- SOURCE = CC#80
- SRC MODE = MOMENTARY (for MIDI momentary 0/127)
- TARGET = T1 PLY/STOP
There are 8 ASSIGNS available for each MEMORY location.
Be aware that these settings are made for each MEMORY separately, and the user customized changes will need to be user, WRITE/saved, to the Memory location. Also, worthy to note, ASSIGNMENTS are not able to be SYSTEM/global or globally applied; they are MEMORY specific and unique, so if you want to use the same ASSIGN for a different MEMORY location, you'll need to program it manually again, in that MEMORY.
TIP: An easy old RC user work around is to create a "template MEMORY location patch".
Leave the MEMORY blank of any Track loops, program your desired/favorite, ASSIGNMENTS 1-8, WRITE/save them to the MEMORY location, uniquely name the template patch. Now whenever the same ASSIGNMENTS are needed, WRITE/save the same "template patch" to a MEMORY location, you can even save it into multiple MEMORY locations in a range. This allows for your favorite ASSIGNMENTS to be at the ready as you arrive to those MEMORY locations, template patch or user project settings for a MEMORY location.
