Most acoustic pianos have 3 pedals that provide the following functionality:
- The pedal on the right provides hold / sustain (also called a damper pedal)
- The pedal in the middle provides sostenuto
- The pedal on the left provides a soft effect often called "una corde."
To duplicate this in the FANTOM using the RPU-3:
- Connect the cable for the right hand pedal on the RPU-3 to the jack labelled "HOLD/R" on the back panel (this jack is set to CC64 : HOLD only so can't be changed)
- Connect the middle pedal to the jack labelled "CTRL3/C" and set it to "CC66 : SOSTENUO."
- Connect the left pedal to the jack labelled "CTRL2/L" and set it to "CC67 : SOFT."
Note that there are 2 places in the FANTOM where you can make settings for the Pedals:
The System Pedal page (MENU / SYSTEM / PEDAL) is a global setting that will affect all Scenes in the same way.
or
The Scene Edit Pedal page (MENU / SCENE EDIT / PEDAL) allows you to set the pedals differently for each Scene if desired.
In the System Pedal page there is a switch that specifies if the pedals will use the System Settings (global) or the Scene settings (can be different for each Scene), so it is important to check this option and set it correctly.
- Press MENU.
- Touch "SYSTEM" on the touchscreen.
- Select the tab on the left labelled "PEDAL."
The top option on this screen is "PEDAL ASSIGN SOURCE" - make sure this is set to "SYS" if you will be making the pedal settings in the system menu and set it to "SCENE" if you are making the settings in the Scene Edit menu.
