The following article guides through backing up or recovering Gigcaster 8 data using a computer. This is useful for keeping your data and settings safe as well as sharing settings with other Gigcaster 8 units.
What you will need.
- USB C cable with the correct USB type for your computer.
- macOS or Windows computer.
Note: For the most stable connection, be sure to connect directly to your computer and not via a USB hub or similar device.
Here's how to backup or recover your Gigcaster 8 data.

On the MENU screen, select <Setup> and then <General>.
You will see the GENERAL screen. -
Select <EXECUTE> next to BACKUP.
You will see a confirmation message asking you to confirm. -
Select <YES>
You will see <CONNECTING...> appear on the screen. -
Connect your USB cable to the Gigcaster 8's USB port and to your computer's USB port.
Once a connection has been established, you will see the message "CONNECTED". -
Open the GCS-8_INT drive
- On Windows, open PC and then open GCS-8_INT.
- On macOS, select the GCS-8_INT icon on your computer's desktop.

Backup or recover data.
- Backup: Copy the "GCS-8_BAK.BIN" file in the GCS-8_INT drive to your computer. Make sure to copy it to a memorable location so it is easy to find in future.

Recover: Delete the GCS-8_BAK.BIN file in the GCS-8_INT drive and copy a previously backed-up GCS-8_BAK.BIN file from your computer into the GCS-8_INT drive.
Note: When restoring a backup, the memory currently saved in the Gigcaster 8 will be erased. Be sure to backup your data before restoring anything.
NOTE: Do not delete the folders in the GCS-8_INT driver unless you are recovering data.

Select <Disconnect> to eject the GCS-8_INT drive from your computer.
You will see the message "DISCONNECTING...".
Alternatively, you can also use your computer to safely eject the GCS-8_INT drive.- In Windows, click
