The GM-800 system program provides feature additions and improvements. We recommend first checking the currently installed firmware version and updating it as needed.
How to Check the Installed Version
- Unplug the AC adaptor from the DC IN jack to turn off the power of the GM-800.
- While holding down the [ EXIT ] button, turn on the power.
**Keep holding down the EXIT button until the GM-800 logo appears on the display.**
After a short moment, the version information will appear on the display. - Confirm the currently installed version, then unplug the AC adaptor from the DC IN jack to power off.
In short, the process to update is as follows.
- Format a USB flash drive using GM-800.
- Upload file content downloaded from GM-800 website called "GM-800_UPA_up.bin" to the GM-800 flash drive using your macOS/Windows computer/laptop.
- Connect GM-800 flash drive with GM-800 unit in Update Mode and initiate.
Formatting a USB flash drive
Please format the USB flash drive using the GM-800 and the following procedure.
NOTE: If the USB flash drive contains important data, be aware that this operation erases all data from the drive.
- Choose [MENU] > “USB MEMORY”.
If USB MEMORY is not available to access, you may be using a flash drive that is too large in file size or the drive in not connected correctly. Either us a flash drive with less file room OR unplug and plug the flash drive back in until USB MEMORY can be selected. - Press the PAGE [<] [>] buttons to show “FORMAT”.
- Press the [1] knob.
A confirmation message appears. - Press the [4] knob to execute.
If you decide to cancel, press knob [3].
* When formatting is complete, the message “Completed” appears.
* Never turn off the power or disconnect the USB flash drive during a process, such as while the “Executing…” display is shown.
UPLOAD .BIN UPDATE FILE TO THE USB FLASH DRIVE
- Connect the USB flash drive to a USB port on your computer.
- Download the latest version of the system program from https://www.boss.info/global/products/gm-800/downloads/, and extract it.
- On Windows: Right-click the "gm800_sys_v***.zip" file and select "Extract All" from the menu. This will unzip the file and provide easier access to the "gm800_sys_v***" folder.
- On Mac: Double-click the ZIP file labeled "gm800_sys_v***.zip." It should automatically unzip and create a folder with the same name.
- Open the folder labeled "gm800_sys_v***."
Example: - Copy the .BIN file named "GM-800_UPA_up.bin" from this folder and paste (or drag and drop) it onto the USB flash drive.
- Once the file is copied over, soft Eject the USB0 flash drive from your computer and remove.
UPDATING THE HARDWARE
- Unplug the AC adaptor from the DC IN jack to turn off the power of the GM-800.
- Connect the USB flash drive to the USB MEMORY port on the rear panel.
- While pressing the [WRITE] button, turn on the power of the GM-800.
**Keep holding down the [WRITE] button until "GM-800 UPDATER" appears on the screen.** - Release the [WRITE] button after "GM-800 UPDATER" appears on the screen.
- When the display indicates "UPDATE SUCCEEDED", unplug the AC adaptor from the DC IN jack to turn off the power.
- Disconnect the USB flash drive from the USB MEMORY port.

Turn on the power and confirm that the update to the latest version was successful.
