The GM-800, similar to Roland's flagship FANTOM series amongst other products, utilizes what are called "scenes" as opposed to "memories" or "patches".
Scenes are built up from a selection of settings for all PARTS, GUITAR to MIDI, SCENE EFFECTS, and CONTROL ASSIGNS. Within a SCENE there is a stored, complete state of your favorite performance settings, such as tone number, pan and volume, as well settings common to all parts in a given scene.
Each SCENE may also have its own effect that governs all parts of the SCENE.
The main aspects of a SCENE are comprised of 4 parts, a rhythm part, alongside their corresponding tones.
PART
Assigning a sound (or tone) to a part allows you to play and adjust that part, as well as specific pan and EQ settings.
Synthesizer sounds can be assigned to parts 1 through 4, whereas part R can only be assigned a rhythm sound.
TONE
Each PART has an assigned tone. The adjustable parameters here include, but are not limited to, filters and effects (MFX).
