The following article will guide through simultaneously recording up to 8 audio devices simultaneously on the BR-1600CD:
- Bring the MASTER volume fader all the way down.
- Connect the outputs of the audio devices (e.g. microphones, drum machine, keyboards, etc) to the XLR or 1/4" inputs on the back panel of the BR-1600CD.
- a. If you are using microphones that do not require Phantom Power (e.g. dynamic mic), proceed to step 4.
b. If you are using microphones that requires Phantom Power (e.g. condenser mic):
a. Press the UTILITY button.
b. CURSOR to "SYSTEM" and then press ENTER.
c. CURSOR to "Phantom" and then use the TIME/VALUE dial to select "ON".
Phantom power is now being supplied to XLR inputs 1-8.
Important Note: When Phantom Power is ON, do not connect any audio device to the XLR inputs other than microphones that can safely receive 48 volts. Check the documentation of your microphones to determine if phantom power is required or if phantom power will cause damage to the microphone. - Press the MULTI-TRACK button on the top left of the BR-1600CD so that it is illuminated red.
- If necessary, turn up the volume of the external instruments or unmute the mics if they have a mute function/switch.
- On the top panel of the BR-1600CD, adjust the white INPUT SENS knobs clockwise for the necessary inputs (i.e. inputs 1 through 8). Adjust these knobs until the red PEAK lights next to the knobs flash occasionally when you play the instruments or sing/talk into the mics.
- Adjust the black INPUT LEVEL knob
on the left panel until the necessary INPUT meters (i.e. inputs 1 through 8) on the LCD screen average between –12 and –4.
For example:
- Slowly bring up the MASTER volume fader level. Audio will be output to speakers connected to the LINE OUT of the BR-1600CD.
Note: If you are using headphones, you can now adjust the headphone volume on the bottom, front panel where the headphones connect to the BR-1600CD. - Press the TRACK BUTTONs of the tracks that correspond to the inputs until the necessary tracks are blinking. Press the TRACK BUTTONS of the tracks you do not want to record to until they are not blinking.
For example, if there are microphones connected to XLR inputs 1 through 5 on the back panel, arm tracks 1 through 5 so that they are blinking and be sure that tracks 6, 7 and 8 are not blinking.
Note:
- When using the MULTI-TRACK function, you can record to the first bank of 8 tracks (i.e. tracks 1 through 8) OR the second bank of 8 tracks (i.e. tracks 9 through 16). You cannot record to some tracks from the first bank (i.e. tracks 1 through 8) AND some tracks from the second bank (i.e. tracks 9 through 16).
- If recording mono instruments, select tracks 1 through 8 only. Tracks 9 through 16 are for stereo recording only. - Press the REC button and then press PLAY. The BR-1600CD will begin to recording.
- Press the STOP button to end recording.
