FAQ
Q: Can I get the U-8 without Cakewalk or Cubasis?
A: No, the disk that has all of the U-8 controller software also has the sequencing software on it.
Q: I'm on a laptop and I don't have a compatible USB host controller. Is there anything I can do to make the U-8 work with my computer?
A: As of right now, there is no way around that problem.
Q: How many tracks of Audio can I record at a time?
A: Two Mono, or One Stereo.
Q: What Type of effects does the U-8 have?
A: The U-8 has a host of different effects in its patch manager. There are about 130 preset effects that range from tight reverbs to heavy distortions. There are also the Roland SoundScape effects and many dynamic processors as well. Most of these effects are multi-effects, so a given effect is made up of several "modules." This allows you much more control over the sound going through the effect. As an effects processor, the U-8 nearly pays for itself.
Q: Does it come with a USB cable?
A: Yes.
Q: Can the XLR input supply Phantom Power?
A: The U-8 does not supply phantom power. If you need a phantom power supply, we do carry a mic preamp.
Q: Can you plug a guitar directly into it?
A: Yes you can. And the U-8 has a wealth of preset effects algorithms designed specifically for guitars. You can get beautiful clean tones and crunching overdrives.
Q: What software will work with the U-8?
A: The U-8 is an Audio interface, Effects Processor, and Control Surface all wrapped up in a convenient package. Currently, it is fully functional with Steinberg Cubasis VST 3.7 R2(U-8), Cakewalk HomeStudio 9.03, and Cakewalk ProAudio 9.03. The U-8 can also work as an audio interface and effects processor on most other DAW programs, but not as a controller.
