Use the following procedure to sync the VS-1680/1880/1824 with the VS-880/880EX/890:
Cable Connections:
1. Using a MIDI cable, connect the MIDI OUT jack of the VS-1880/1680/1824 to the MIDI IN jack of the VS-880/880EX/890.
2. Using a MIDI cable, connect the MIDI OUT jack of the VS-880/880EX/890 to the MIDI IN jack of the VS-1880/1680/1824.
3. Using a digital cable, connect DIGITAL OUT jack of the VS-880/880EX/890 to the DIGITAL IN (Coaxial or Optical) jack on the VS-1880/1680/1824.
VS-1880/1680/1824 Settings:
1. Hold SHIFT and Press F5 [SYSTEM].
2. Press F4 [MIDI]. If MIDI is not shown, press PAGE until it is displayed, then press F4 [MIDI].
3. CURSOR to "MIDI Thru" and set it to OUT.
4. CURSOR to "SysEx.Tx" and select ON.
5. CURSOR to "MMC" and set it to MASTER.
6. Press F6 [EXIT].
7. Press the EXT SYNC button on the top right of the VS.
8. Hold SHIFT and press F5 [SYSTEM]. Press F1 [SYSPM]. If [SYSPM] is not displayed, press PAGE until it is, then press F1 [SYSPM]. CURSOR to MASTER CLOCK and set it to DIGIN1 for COAXIAL or DIGIN2 for OPTICAL (the digital in you're connected to).
9. Press PLAY[DISPLAY].
10. If desired, you can route the DIGITAL IN to the tracks you want to record onto from the VS-880/880EX/890.
VS-880/880EX/890 Settings:
1. Press SYSTEM until "MIDI PRM?" is displayed.
2. Press YES.
3. PARAMETER RIGHT to "MIDIThr=" and set it to OUT.
4. PARAMETER RIGHT to "SysEx.TX=" and set it to ON.
5. PARAMETER RIGHT to "MMC=" and set it to SLAVE.
6. Press SYSTEM until "SYNC/TEMPO?" is displayed. Press YES.
7. PARAMETER RIGHT to "Syn:Source=" and set it to INT.
8. PARAMETER RIGHT to "Syn:Gen.=" and set it to MTC.
9. PARAMETER RIGHT to "Syn:MTC Type" and set it to 30.
When you press PLAY on the VS-1880/1680/1824, both units will start playing in sync.
Cable Connections:
1. Using a MIDI cable, connect the MIDI OUT jack of the VS-1880/1680/1824 to the MIDI IN jack of the VS-880/880EX/890.
2. Using a MIDI cable, connect the MIDI OUT jack of the VS-880/880EX/890 to the MIDI IN jack of the VS-1880/1680/1824.
3. Using a digital cable, connect DIGITAL OUT jack of the VS-880/880EX/890 to the DIGITAL IN (Coaxial or Optical) jack on the VS-1880/1680/1824.
VS-1880/1680/1824 Settings:
1. Hold SHIFT and Press F5 [SYSTEM].
2. Press F4 [MIDI]. If MIDI is not shown, press PAGE until it is displayed, then press F4 [MIDI].
3. CURSOR to "MIDI Thru" and set it to OUT.
4. CURSOR to "SysEx.Tx" and select ON.
5. CURSOR to "MMC" and set it to MASTER.
6. Press F6 [EXIT].
7. Press the EXT SYNC button on the top right of the VS.
8. Hold SHIFT and press F5 [SYSTEM]. Press F1 [SYSPM]. If [SYSPM] is not displayed, press PAGE until it is, then press F1 [SYSPM]. CURSOR to MASTER CLOCK and set it to DIGIN1 for COAXIAL or DIGIN2 for OPTICAL (the digital in you're connected to).
9. Press PLAY[DISPLAY].
10. If desired, you can route the DIGITAL IN to the tracks you want to record onto from the VS-880/880EX/890.
VS-880/880EX/890 Settings:
1. Press SYSTEM until "MIDI PRM?" is displayed.
2. Press YES.
3. PARAMETER RIGHT to "MIDIThr=" and set it to OUT.
4. PARAMETER RIGHT to "SysEx.TX=" and set it to ON.
5. PARAMETER RIGHT to "MMC=" and set it to SLAVE.
6. Press SYSTEM until "SYNC/TEMPO?" is displayed. Press YES.
7. PARAMETER RIGHT to "Syn:Source=" and set it to INT.

When you press PLAY on the VS-1880/1680/1824, both units will start playing in sync.
