The BR-600 has a built in drum machine that is programmed in the same manner as most drum machines--programming drum Patterns into Arrangements. As an analogy, Patterns are the bricks to the building and the Arrangement is the building itself.
Once you have created and stored patterns, you will create an Arrangement where you will program them in the order in which you want the patterns to play back.
Note: Patterns are usually no more than a few measures long. In most cases, each section of the song will be a separate pattern. For example, S001 (i.e. Song Pattern 001) for the Intro, S002 for Verse 1, S003 for the Chorus, S004 for Verse 2…and so on. The following steps will guide you through creating a Pattern of your own.
1) Making sure that the PAD button is not lit, press the PATTERN button and then press the RHYTHM EDIT button.
2) Use the CURSOR buttons to select the "P" (for Preset of the factory patterns) and use the TIME/VALUE dial to change the P to an S (stands for the Song bank of your patterns). Now choose an empty pattern by cursoring one field to right with your right CURSOR button and TIME/VALUE dial.
3) Next, use the CURSORS to select "REAL" and press ENTER. Raise the "Master fader" and the "Rhythm fader" until you can hear the click track.
4) At this point the REC button will be flashing red. Press the RECORD button a second time to begin recording.
5) Hit the PAD buttons to trigger and input the note numbers in realtime to make your custom pattern. If you make a mistake, you can delete the wrong note or notes by holding down the DELETE/MUTE button and the "drum pad" of the instrument that you want to delete. When you are finished recording the pattern, press the STOP button.
6) Press EXIT twice and your pattern will be automatically saved to the Song pattern selected in step 2 above (e.g. S01). This Song pattern can be used when creating an Arrangement:
