BR-80, MICRO BR® BR-80: Transferring MICRO BR® backups to the MICRO BR® BR-80

If you have backup files from the original MICRO BR® Digital Recorder that was released in 2006, you may transfer the tracks from the backup to the newer 2011 MICRO BR® BR-80. Although their backup files are not compatible, you may pass WAV files from one to another using the BR WAV Converter software. The following procedure will guide you through this process.

Note: WAV file audio tracks are the only files that can be transferred from the Micro BR to the BR-80. Effect settings, pan settings, etc cannot be transferred.

CREATING A MICRO-BR USB MEMORY:
You will first need to copy your Micro BR backup (i.e. "ROLAND" folder) to a USB memory drive so that the BR WAV Converter software "sees" the USB drive as a BR device:

1. Connect the USB memory to your computer and view it's contents in a window.
2. Delete all contents in the USB memory window (if applicable). Note: backup any data that you need prior to erasing these files.
3. Drag the Micro BR's "ROLAND" folder backup directly into the USB Memory window. The "ROLAND" folder backup contents will be copied onto the USB memory drive.

Exporting Tracks from the Micro-BR as WAV Fiiles

1. Put the MICRO-BR into USB Backup mode by plugging the USB cable into your BR.
2. Connect the USB cable to your computer. The BR appears on your computer with a drive letter (ie: E: or F:) You can close any windows that open, but you’ll need to know this drive letter in Step 4.
3. Run the BR WAV Converter by double-clicking it.
   Note: The BRWC is given to you in a .zip or .sit file which you'll need to extract before use.
4. Using the Drive pulldown menu in the top left-hand corner of the screen, select the drive letter you saw for the BR in Step 2.
5. Using the Song pull-down menu, select the song you wish to work with.
   At this point, you should see green squares on a grid. These green squares represent tracks in your song that have with audio on them. The columns (up and down) represent the tracks. The top square in each column is V-Track 1 and each row represents the other V-Tracks. In other words, the second square down in the first column is Track 1-V2.
6. Click the V-Track(s) you wish to export to turn them orange. You can also click the ALL button to select all V-Tracks.
7. Click EXPORT at the bottom left-hand corner.
8. Click GO.
9. Using the dropdown menu for SAVE IN, select the destination folder—if you’re unsure where to save the converted data, select DESKTOP.
10. Type a filename of your choice into the FILENAME box, and click SAVE.
    Now you’ve got you Micro-BR tracks as WAV file(s) on your computer. Next, you will use the BR WAV Converter software to import these tracks into the BR-80.
11. Close down the BR WAV Converter software.

Importing WAV Files from your computer to the BR-80

Note: You’ll need have a song on your BR-80 to put the files in. You can make a new song or import them into an existing song.

1. On the BR-80, press the MENU button.
2. Use the cursor buttons to select "FUNCTION" and then press ENTER.
3. Use the cursor buttons to select "USB" and then press ENTER.
4. Use the dial to select "STORAGE" and then press ENTER twice.
5. Turn off the BR-80's power and then back on again. The BR-80's USB mode is now set to Storage.
6. Use a USB cable to connect the BR-80 to your computer.
   Note: The BR-80 may appear on your computer with a drive letter (For example; E: or F:). You can close any windows that open, but you’ll need to know this drive letter in Step 8.
7. Launch the BR WAV Converter software by double-clicking BRWC icon on your computer.
   
   Note: The BRWC software is provided as a .zip or .sit file you'll need to extract before using.
8. Once the BR WAV converter program is open, use the Drive menu at the top left of the screen to select the BR-80 drive you identified in Step 6.
9. Select the song you wish to work with from the Song menu.
   
   The squares in the grid represent each of the V-Tracks in your song. If you’re importing into an existing song, any existing V-Tracks will be green. The columns (up and down) represent the tracks. The top square in each column is V-Track 1 and each row represents the other V-Tracks. For example, the second square down in the first column is "Track 1-V2."
10. Click the track(s) you wish to import to — their color changes to orange. If it’s a stereo track, make sure both sides are orange.
11. Click IMPORT in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen.
12. Click GO.
13. You'll be prompted to browse for a .WAV file. Locate and select the file you’d like to import, and then click Open.
    
    That’s it! The .WAV file is converted into a V-Track on your BR-80!
14. Close the BR Wav Converter software by clicking on the "X" in the upper right corner.
15. Stop the connection between the BR-80 and your computer:
    
    Windows Users
    From the Windows Start menu, click on “Computer.” Right-click the “BOSS_BR-80” icon (or the “Removable disk (*:)” icon), and then click on “Eject.”
    
    Mac OS Users
    Drag the “BR-80” icon to the “Eject” ("Trash") icon.
