If you connect devices to the LINE IN jack (e.g. an iPod) or to the USB connector, they will be mixed with the audio from the built-in microphones. To "turn off" the internal microphones and record only the sound arriving at the LINE IN jack and USB connector, turn the [REC LEVEL] dial all the way down. You may then use the controls of the device connected to the LINE IN to adjust the recording level.
