The following article will guide you through connecting two VS-1680/1880/1824CD workstations together so that the first recorder will control the second recorder. In addition, all audio from the 2nd recorder will be output through the first recorder.
CONNECTIONS
- Connect the MIDI OUT of the 1st unit (Master) to the MIDI IN of the 2nd unit (Slave).

Connect the RCA outputs 1 and 2 of the 2nd unit (Slave) to the ¼” inputs 7 and 8 of the 1st unit (Master).
Note: This will require a stereo adapter cable with two rca connectors on one side and two ¼” connectors on the other side of the cable.
MASTER (1ST UNIT) SETTINGS

Hold SHIFT and then press F5 for SYSTEM menu.

Press F4[MIDI]. If MIDI is not displayed over F4, press PAGE, then F4[MIDI].

Use the CURSOR buttons and the TIME/VALUE dial to set "MIDI THRU" to "OUT".

Set "MMC" to "MASTER".

Press F6[EXIT], then F6 again to go into the SYNC parameter page.

Set "SYNC SOURCE" to "INT".

Set "SYNC Gen." to "MTC".
-
Set "SYNC MTC TYPE" to "30".

Press the PLAY/DISPLAY button to return to the main screen.

Press the FADER/MUTE button above the red MASTER volume fader until “IN” is illuminated. The volume faders are not assigned to be input faders.
NOTE: Be sure that “IN” is illuminated and not “TR”. -
Bring down the volume sliders of faders 7 and 8 and then bring them up to 0.
You may now connect headphones or speakers to ouputs 1/2 or outputs 3/4.
SLAVE (2ND UNIT) SETTINGS

Hold SHIFT and then press F5 for SYSTEM menu.

Press F4[MIDI]. If MIDI is not displayed over F4, press PAGE, then F4[MIDI].

Use the CURSOR buttons and the TIME/VALUE dial to set "MIDI THRU" to "THRU".

Set "MMC" to "SLAVE".

Press F6[EXIT], then F6 again to go into the SYNC parameter page.

Set "SYNC SOURCE" to "EXT".

Set "SYNC MTC TYPE" to "30".

Press the PLAY/DISPLAY button to return to the main screen.

Press the PLAY button. The button will begin flashing and will wait for a sync signal from the first unit (Master).
That’s it! When you press PLAY on the first unit (Master), the second unit (Slave) will begin playing. Audio from the Slave will be input into the Master’s inputs 7 and 8.
