The BR-80 allows you to create Rhythm Progressions that have musical variation by arranging several different patterns in an appropriate order; such as INTRO, VERSE, CHORUS, VERSE and ENDING.
CREATING A RHYTHM PROGRESSION
The following example will create a Rhythm Progression that includes an Intro, Verse 1, Verse 2, and then an Ending. Of course, this is just an example and the steps for creating your own progressions are similar.
NOTE: Creating a new song is recommended so that you can start from an empty arrangement.
- Press the power button a number of times until "MTR" is illuminated on the BR-80.
- Turn the data dial to select "SONG" on the screen and then press ENTER.
- Turn the data dial to select "NEW" on the screen and then press ENTER three times. A new song file will be created
- Press the RHYTHM button so that the RHYTHM screen appears.
- We will now setup the following progression:
Measure 1: INTRO Pattern 001( ROCK 1-IN)
Measures 2 through 5: VERSE Pattern 001 (ROCK 1-V1)
Measures 6 through 9: VERSE Pattern 002 (ROCK 1-V2)
Measures 10 through 11: ENDING Pattern 001 (ROCK 1-E) - Press the rewind button so that the the cursor symbol is set to measure 1.
- Use the CURSOR buttons and data dial to make the following settings:
INTRO:
INTRO Pattern 001 ( ROCK 1-IN) will begin playing on Measure 1 and it's LENGTH is 001 (it will play for 1 measure). - Use the rewind and fast-forward buttons to select Measure 2.
- Press the ENTER button and then select INSERT on the screen.
- Press ENTER to insert a pattern into Measure 2.
- Use the CURSOR buttons and data dial to make the following settings:
VERSE 1:
VERSE Pattern 001 (ROCK 1-V1) will begin playing on Measure 2 and it's LENGTH is 004 (it will play for 4 measures). - Use the rewind and fast-forward buttons to select Measure 6.
- Press the ENTER button and then select INSERT on the screen.
- Press ENTER to insert a pattern into Measure 6.
- Use the CURSOR buttons and data dial to make the following settings:
VERSE 2:
VERSE Pattern 002 (ROCK 1-V2) will begin playing on Measure 6 and it's LENGTH is 004 (it will play for 4 measures). - Use the rewind and fast-forward buttons to select Measure 10.
- Press the ENTER button and then select INSERT on the screen.
- Press ENTER to insert a pattern into Measure 10.
- Use the CURSOR buttons and data dial to make the following settings:
ENDING:
ENDING Pattern 001 (ROCK 1-E) will begin playing on Measure 10 and it's LENGTH is 002 (it will play for 2 measures). - Since there are no additional patterns after Measure 11, the drums will stop playing on Measure 12.
