The HPD-20 displays "Unsupported format." when an audio file does not meet the required specifications, or when the file contains embedded metadata even if the specifications are met.
Supported file specifications:
- Format: WAV
- Sample rate: 44.1 kHz
- Bit depth: 16-bit
- Channels: Stereo or mono
- Length: Up to 6 minutes
Note: Files containing embedded metadata or "tags" (common with files from DAWs, other audio programs, or sample libraries) may also trigger this error even if the specifications above are met.
To resolve the error, use the following steps.
- Convert the file to WAV format (44.1 kHz, 16-bit, stereo or mono) using audio editing or conversion software such as Apple Music (macOS) or iTunes for Windows. Refer to Apple's support page for conversion instructions: Convert a song to a different file format with the Apple Music app or iTunes for Windows
- If the file already meets these specifications but still won't import, the file may contain embedded metadata or "tags." Convert the file to Apple Lossless or FLAC format to strip this information, then convert it back to WAV.
- Place the file in the root directory of your USB flash drive.
- Insert the USB flash drive into the HPD-20 and try importing again.
