If your unit will not power on at all, the following is troubleshooting information to help you:
-
If you are using batteries:
- Trying brand new, unused Alkaline (non-rechargeable) batteries. Note: the R-5 is compatible with Alkaline and Nickel-metal hydride batteries only--Lithium or other battery types are not compatible.
-
If you are using a power supply:
- Be sure that you are using a Roland PSB-6U or UDC-25 power supply only. 3rd party power supplies can cause the R-05 to not operate properly.
-
If using a PSB-6U:
Be sure that the PSB-6U's power cable is connected securely to the power supply box itself.
You can also try disconnecting the power supply from the R-05 and then reconnecting. - If using a UDC-25:
Be sure that the UDC-25 is connected securely to the USB power adapter or to the computer. For troubleshooting purposes, test on a different USB power adapter or computer. - If the problem continues, the PSB-6U or UDC-25 may be malfunctioning. The best way to test this is to physically disconnect the PSB or UDC and test with batteries. Please refer to the section above.

If the problem continues, then the R-05 will need service
For the R-05 recorders, we recommend that you send them directly to our service facility if they need service. Before sending the product, you must first obtain a Return Authorization number (RA). You can do so by using our online service request form on our site here: Service Request (Roland Backstage)
