The R-09 allows you to connect an external stereo or mono microphone for recording. The type of connections and settings needed will depend on the type of microphone you are using. The following will guide you through the proper connections and settings in the R-09 for common microphone types:
Note: If you are using a condenser microphone that requires Phantom Power, you will need to connect the condenser mic to the input of an external phantom power box. The output of this phantom power box will then connect to the R-09’s MIC input jack using the appropriate adapter below. These phantom power boxes can be purchased at most musical instrument stores or online.

XLR Connections:
Mono: If your mono mic has an XLR output, you can use an XLR Female to ⅛” Stereo Mini Male adapter to connect the mic to the R-09’s MIC input jack:
Stereo: If you want to record in stereo (e.g. a stereo mic that has two XLR outputs or using two microphones to record in stereo), you can use a Dual XLR Female to ⅛” Stereo Mini Male adapter to connect the mics to the R-09’s MIC input jack:

1/4” Connections:
Mono: If your mono mic has a ¼” output, you can use a 1/4” Female to 1/8” Stereo Mini Male adapter to connect the mic to the R-09’s MIC input jack:
Stereo: If you want to record in stereo (e.g. a stereo mic that has two 1/4” outputs or using two microphones to record in stereo), you can use a Dual 1/4” Female to 1/8” Stereo Mini Male adapter to connect the mics to the R-09’s MIC input jack:
Important Note: Be sure that you are using a “stereo breakout” adapter and NOT a “splitter” adapter. You will want to be sure that this adapter separates (breaks out) the tip and the ring of the 1/8” connector (as shown in the image above).

Here’s how to switch the mono/stereo setting as appropriate for the mic that’s connected to the MIC jack:
