The V-STUDIO 700 can be used as a control surface and audio interface to Sonar X3, X2 and X1. The following steps will guide you through setting up the V-STUDIO 700 in Sonar X3, X2 and X1.
Note: The V-STUDIO 700 Driver Software must be installed prior to performing the setup below. If you haven't yet installed this driver software, you can download and install it here:
VS-700 Downloads
NOTE:
- If you're using the VS-700 System consisting of the VS-700C console and the VS-700R rack:
Download the "VS-700R (Rack) USB Driver" for Windows or Mac
- If you're using just the VS-700C without the VS-700R rack:
Download the "VS-700C (Console Only) USB Driver" for Windows or Mac
NOTE: Driver installation instructions are included with each download.
VS-700 Control Surface Setup
- If you're using the VS-700 System (Console and Rack together), connect a USB cable from the VS-700R rack to the computer.
If you're using the VS-700C Console only, connect a USB cable from the VS-700C console to the computer. - In Sonar, click on Edit and then “Preferences…”

Under MIDI, click on “Devices”.

Select “CONSOLE (VS-700)” for both Inputs and Outputs so that there is a checkmark in each box. Be sure that “IO (VS-700)” is NOT selected and there is not a checkmark in either box.

Click Apply and then click on OK..

Under MIDI, click on “Control Surfaces”.

In the Controller/Surface section, click on any existing control surface so that it is highlighted and then click on the red (“Delete Selected Controller/Surface”) button delete it. There should not be any control surfaces setup in the list.

Click on the yellow star (“Add new Controller/Surface”) button on the top right.

Make the following settings:
Controller/Surface: VS-700
Input Port: CONSOLE (VS-700)
Output Port: CONSOLE (VS-700) -
Click on OK in the Controller/Surface Settings window.

Click Apply in the Preferences windows and then click Close.
The VS-700 is now setup as a control surface for Sonar.
NOTE: If the VS-700 doesn't appear as a "Controller/Surface" in step 9 above or the VS-700 doesn't respond, be sure that the latest version of your Sonar software has been installed.
