- Press RHYTHM.
- Press TR2 to display to show "AR" in the upper-left corner of the display.
- Press TR1 until "RHYTHM" appears at the bottom of the screen.
- Cursor to the letter "P" that's to the right of the colon in the upper left of the display.
- Press the + VALUE button to change the "P" to an "S."
- Press TR4 (EDT).
- Press TR1(STP). This opens the Step window.
- Use the VALUE + button to bring up Step "01"--if it's not already there.
- Cursor to the pattern number.
Note: The default is P314 Metro. - Use the VALUE buttons to select one of the 327 available rhythm patterns.
Note: This pattern plays indefinitely until you create the next step. - Cursor to the time signature and use the VALUE buttons to set the time signature.

Note: This sets the tempo for this step only. - To create the next step in your arrangement, cursor to the number in the upper left corner to the left of the colon.
- Use the VALUE + button to bring up Step "02".
- Cursor to the Measure position to the right of the colon.
- Use the VALUE button to select the starting measure for your second step. For example, If you want your first pattern to play for eight measures, set the Measure for Step 2 "9"—the new pattern will begin at Measure 9.
- Cursor to the Pattern Number and use the VALUE buttons to select the pattern that you want to start at Step 2.
- Cursor to the time signature and use the VALUE buttons to set the time signature.
- Cursor to the tempo and use the VALUE buttons to set the tempo.
- Continue repeating the process of changing the step/measure and pattern to build an arrangement of up to 50 steps.
