The following article addresses general connection issues when using the OCTA-CAPTURE with a computer:

First be sure that your OCTA-CAPTURE is not in VS Expand mode:
- Press and hold the DISPLAY button for a few seconds. The SYSTEM menu appears.
- Turn the CURSOR/VALUE dial to select “VS EXPAND” and the press the CURSOR/VALUE button inwards.
- If the VS EXPAND is set to “ON”, turn the CURSOR/VALUE dial to select “OFF” and then press the dial inward to confirm the selection.
- Turn off the OCTA-CAPTURE and then power the unit back on.
- Be sure that the OCTA-CAPTURE is running at the latest version:

Note: The current version appears on the OCTA-CAPTURE's LED screen when it's powering on. - Be sure that the latest driver version has been installed.

Be sure to log on as a user with administrative privileges on your computer.

Close/turn off system monitoring/anti-virus software when installing the driver--such as the Norton software you have installed. If system monitoring software such as anti-virus programs are installed on your computer, close them while troubleshooting.

Connect directly to your computer via USB. Do not connect to a USB hub while troubleshooting.

Be sure that you are connecting to a USB 2.0 port on your computer; or a USB 3.0 port with backwards compatibility. Check the USB 3.0 specifications of your computer to determine if there is complete support for USB backwards compatibility.
- Raise the buffer setting of both the OCTA-CAPTURE as well as the audio software (DAW) being used: OCTA-CAPTURE, UA-1010: SYMPTOM: Pops, Clicks, Lockups and Dropouts

Try disconnecting the OCTA-CAPTURE from the computer, running the uninstall program that came with the driver download, restarting the computer and then installing.

Install the latest version of Windows or macOS.

Did you install a device, install software or a plug-in, update software or make a change in Device Manager just before the issue appeared? If so, it's possible that the change you made caused the issue. Undo the change or uninstall the driver or software (if you can), restart the computer and then troubleshoot. Depending on the changes made, some solutions might include:
- Remove or reconfigure the newly installed device.
- Roll back the software version prior to the update.
- Use System Restore to undo recent changes. - Scan for viruses or trojans with any antivirus software installed.

Try disabling (unchecking) the exclusive control of the OCTA-CAPTURE (Windows only):
- Click on the "Type here to search" box on the bottom of the screen.
- Type "sound" and then select "Sound settings."
- Under "Choose your output device," be sure that the OCTA-CAPTURE is selected.
- Click on "Device properties" beneath it.
- Click on "Additional device properties." A Properties window appears.
- In the window, go to the Advanced tab and un-check "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" and then click OK and close the Properties windows.
- Click on the left arrow on the top left of the Settings window to return to the main Sound Settings screen.
- Scroll down to "Choose your input device," be sure that the OCTA-CAPTURE is selected.
- Repeat the above steps to un-check "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" for the input.

Try disabling (unchecking) the exclusive control of the OCTA-CAPTURE (Windows only):

Open Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound and click on the Playback tab

Select the OCTA-CAPTURE (or UA-1010) from the list of audio devices and then click Properties

In the Properties window, go to the Advanced tab and un-check "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" and then click OK.

Click on the Recording tab and repeat these steps.
Restart the computer for the changes to take effect.

Check Power Management Settings (Windows only):

Click on the "Type here to search" box on the bottom of the screen.

Type "Edit power plan" and then select "Edit power plan."

Click on "Change advanced power settings."

In the Advanced Settings, click the “+” symbol for "Hard Disk," and click the “+”symbol for "Turn off hard disk after" to open it.

Click "Setting (Minutes)," and click the down arrow to change the setting to "Never."

Click "Apply" and then "OK" to close the Power Options window.

Close the "Edit Plan Settings" screen.

- Test with different DAW software (audio software) if possible to determine if the software is the cause of the issue.
- Test with a different computer if possible.
