The causes for a VS Plug-in not installing or installing only as a Trail version are:
- A malfunctioning CD/DVD drive.
- Hard-drive fragmentation.
- A VS8F-3 card is in the wrong card slot. This applies only when using multiple VS8F-3 cards on one VS recorder.
- A damaged/malfunctioning Plug-in Install disc.
- One authorization disc is being used on multiple VS recorders.
The following procedures will help pinpoint the source of the issue:
- Malfunctioning CD Drive
Try burning an audio CD from tracks you’ve recorded on the VS recorder. If the VS burns successfully, the CD drive is most likely functioning as it should. If you can’t perform either of these operations, your VS recorder may need service (service information can be found below). - Hard-Drive Fragmentation
A fragmented hard drive can prevent the VS to properly install a Plug-In. The following article has information regarding resolving a fragmented hard drive:
VS-2480: Resolving a Fragmented Hard Drive - Once you’ve formatted the drive, try to install the plug-in again, and then your backed-up data.
- A VS8F-3 card is in the Wrong Slot (Only When Mulitple VS8F-3 Cards are Used)
When installing/authorizing a plug-in that is now brand new, the specific VS8F-3 card that the plug-in was originally installed with will need to be placed in SLOT A of the VS recorder in order to reinstall the plug-in. If the plug-in will only install as a trial version, try placing the other VS8F-3 cards into slot A and then installing the plug-in. - Damaged/Malfunctioning Plug-in Install Disc
If you still can’t install the plug-in(s), the plug-in CD(s) may be damaged and you may need to replace the disc. Unfortunately, the VS8F-3 cards and all VS Plug-ins are out of production and no longer available unfortunately. The only option would be to look into the used market for these (e.g. eBay, craigslist, etc).
Also note that purchasing a used plug-in can be precarious because the authorization disc that is needed to install the plug-in burns an ID of the VS8F-3 card that is being used at the time of plug-in authorization. The plug-in's authorization disc and that specific VS8F-3 card installed are permanently married to each other. From then on, the plug-in will function only with that one specific VS8F-3 card. - One authorization disc is being used on multiple VS recorders.
One authorization disc cannot be used to install plug-ins on more than one VS recorder. Each authorization disc that is needed to install the plug-in burns an ID on the disc of one specific VS8F-3 card. The plug-in's authorization disc and that one specific VS8F-3 card are permanently married to each other. That means that the install disc cannot be used with any other VS recorders.
However, once a plug-in is installed, it will work with all VS8F-3 cards installed. Try placing the other VS8F-3 card in slot A and then trying to install both of the two plug-in discs. If the problem continues, you may need to order a new setup disc.
