The following article will guide through connecting and setting up an external instrument or device such as a keyboard, drum machine, iPod, etc.
Note: The TRI-CAPTURE (UA-33) driver must be installed prior to following the instructions below. You may download and install the driver for your computer's operating system here: https://www.roland.com/global/products/tri-capture/downloads/
Installation instructions are included in the download)
Setup:
- Connect the TRI-CAPTURE to the computer via USB. Be sure to connect directly to the computer and not through a USB hub.
- Lower the PHONES knob completely counter-clockwise.
- Connect the external stereo instrument to the red and white RCA jacks on the back panel of the TRI-CAPTURE.
NOTE: Adapter cables may be needed if the external instrument does not have RCA outputs. For example: 1/4" to RCA adapter cables.
- Raise the volume of the external instrument from the instrument itself.
- Press the REC MODE button until "ALL INPUTS" is selected.
- Press the OUTPUT MUTE switch so that the button is pressed outward.
- Press the INPUT MONITOR switch so that the button is pressed inward.
- Connect headphones to the PHONES jack or speakers to the L-OUTPUT-R jack.
Note: if you have speakers connected, be sure that their power is on and their volume is down at this time.
-
Begin playing the external instrument and slowly raise TRI-CAPTURE's INPUT 3 (AUX) knob clockwise until its "SIG" light illuminates green above the knob.
-
While still playing the external instrument, raise the PHONES knob (if using headphones) or the volume adjustment on the speakers (if using speakers) to hear the microphone.
-
You may now setup the TRI-CAPTURE driver within your software for recording.
