The Roland JD-XA synthesizer has eight parts: four analog and four digital. Each part is assigned a default MIDI channel. This allows each part to be triggered individually from external MIDI devices.
- Analog Part 1 = MIDI Channel 1
- Analog Part 2 = MIDI Channel 2
- Analog Part 3 = MIDI Channel 3
- Analog Part 4 = MIDI Channel 4
- Digital Part 1 = MIDI Channel 5
- Digital Part 2 = MIDI Channel 6
- Digital Part 3 = MIDI Channel 7
- Digital Part 4 = MIDI Channel 8
POLY STACK Mode Behavior:
When the POLY STACK button is lit, all four analog parts temporarily respond to MIDI Channel 1. This enables them to play together from a single channel.
How to Activate Parts on the Keyboard:
To activate a part for playback using the JD-XA keyboard, press its On/Off button so that it is lit.
Note that a part does not need to be active to receive MIDI from external devices.
How to Change MIDI Channels for Each Part
You can change the MIDI channel assignment for each part as part of a Program. Follow these steps:
- Press the MENU button.
- Use the left and right arrow buttons to select "PROGRAM EDIT," then press ENTER.
- Use the arrows again to navigate to "PART MIDI: CH."
- Press the PART SELECT button (A1 to A4 or D1 to D4) to choose the part you want to modify.
- Use the plus and minus buttons to select the desired MIDI channel.
The new channel assignment will be saved with the current Program.
