All of the data in the Fantom-G series is saved in a Project:
- All Sound Data (Patches, Live Sets, Studio Sets, etc.)
- Up to 50 Songs
- Up to 2000 Samples
- Up to 2000 MIDI Phrases
We always recommend backing up your data as often as possible, and there are 2 ways you can back up projects on the Fantom-G series keyboards.
Save Your Project to a USB Key
This option creates an exact copy of your internal project to a USB key, so you can then use the project directly from the USB key if you like. This is useful if you would like to be able to have multiple projects available - they can all be on a single USB key and then be loaded as needed. This is also useful when you need to use a Fantom-G6 that is not your own - you would just need to connect your USB key and load your project. The first step is to format your USB key:
- Press the MENU button and select "Format USB Memory."
- Press ENTER, then press F7 (OK) to proceed.
This will erase all of the data on the USB key and prepare it for use with the Fantom-G. Next, you can copy your internal project from the Fantom-G to the USB key:
- Press MENU, and then press F1 (Project).
- Press F3 (Save As).
- Press F2 (USB Memory), and then press F8 (Save As). You can name your Project if desired, or use the default name supplied by the Fantom-G.
- Press F8 (OK), then press F7 (OK) to confirm the operation.
The Fantom-G will begin copying all of your data to the USB key. The length of time will vary depending on how much data you have in your Project (Songs, Samples, etc.).
Once the Project has been copied to your USB key, you can then open it from the USB key directly:
- Press MENU, and then press F1 (Project).
- Press F1 (Load).
- Press F2 (USB Memory), then use the Value Dial to select your Project.
- Press F8 (Load), then press F7 (OK) to confirm the operation.
Note: You will need to leave the USB key connected to the Fantom-G at all times when using a Project that resides on the USB key. If you remove the USB key and power on the Fantom-G, it will then load the internal project, which will have different data than the project on your USB key.
Back Up Project to a USB Key
The second option is to use the Project Backup option on the Fantom-G. This creates a backup file on your USB key which can then be loaded back into the internal memory at a later time if needed. This option is more useful if you do not wish to leave the USB key connected to your Fantom-G. As above, the first step is to format your USB key:
- Press the MENU button and select "Format USB Memory."
- Press ENTER, then press F7 (OK) to proceed.
Next, you will back up your internal project to the USB key:
- Press MENU, and then press F1 (Project).
- Press F5 (Backup).
- Press F7 (OK) to begin the backup.
The Fantom-G will begin backing up all of your data to the USB key. The length of time will vary depending on how much data you have in your Project (Songs, Samples, etc.).
Note: Only one (1) backup file can be on a USB key at a time. If you backup your Fantom-G data again in the future, it will over-write the current backup file unless you use a different USB key.
Once the Project has been backed up to your USB key, you can then remove the USB key and keep it in a safe place. If you need to re-load your backup into the Fantom-G:
- Press MENU, and then press F1 (Project).
- Press F6 (Restore).
- Press F7 (OK). The backup will be loaded into internal memory of the Fantom-G.
