The following procedure will guide through connecting and recording an external microphone preamplifier to the BR-1200CD:
- Bring the BR-1200CD's MASTER volume fader all the way down.
- Connect either speakers to the LINE OUT on the back panel of the BR-1200CD or headphones to the PHONES jack on the front panel of the BR-1200CD.
- Connect the output of the external mic pre into the 1/4" input 1 on the back panel of the BR-1200CD.
- Turn up the gain and output volume of the external mic pre according to the instructions included with the mic pre.
- Press the GUITAR/BASS button on the top left of the BR-1200CD so that it is illuminated red.
- After the external mic pre is properly setup to send sound out of its output, begin singing or talking into the mic connected to it.
- While singing or talking into the microphone, adjust the white INPUT SENS knob labeled "GUITAR/BASS/INPUT1/MIC1" on the top left of the BR-1200CD until its red PEAK light illuminates just briefly.
- Then while still singing or talking, adjust the black INPUT LEVEL knob
on the left panel until the "IN" meter on the LCD screen averages between –12 and –4.
- Slowly bring up the MASTER volume fader level to hear the audio.
Note: If you are using headphones, you can now adjust the headphone volume on the bottom, front panel where the headphones connect to the BR-1200CD. - Press the TRACK BUTTON of track you would like to record to. The selected track button will begin to blink.
NOTE: Since you are recording a mono device, you will be recording onto one track (e.g. Track 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8). Stereo tracks 9/10 or 11/12 cannot be recorded onto. - Press the REC button and then press PLAY. The BR-1200CD will begin to record.
- Press the STOP button to end recording.
