The following steps will guide through the proper procedure for using an external microphone with the MICRO BR.
Notes:
- The MICRO BR's microphone input is designed for stereo microphones only. Although a mono mic can be used, two tracks will be recorded with one track that contains the microphone and the other track recording silence.
- Condenser microphones require 48 volts, known as Phantom power, in order to operate. If you are using a condenser microphone, you will need an external phantom power box to power the condenser microphone; this is usually sold separately from the microphone and can be found at most musical instrument stores or online.
- Connect the microphone, or the output to the phantom power box, to the LINE IN/MIC (STEREO) jack of the MICRO BR. This will require a "Y" adapter cable with stereo 1/8" on one end (connected to the MICRO BR) and two XLR cable on the other end. These can be purchased online.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Do not use a single stereo 1/8" to a single female XLR--as shown below. Doing so will produce an usable audio signal:
- Press the INPUT button on the MICRO BR.
- Press the TR4 button until EXT is capitalized on the screen. This selects the external microphone jack as the audio input for recording.
- Press EXIT.
- While singing or talking into the microphone, use the INPUT LEVEL knob on the side of the MICRO BR so that the level averages around four bars.
- You'll notice that only one side of the audio meter will show signal (either the left or the right). This is normal.
- Press the one of the track button (TR1, TR2, TR3 or TR4) to arm the desired tracks. Note that two tracks will be armed in this case. One track will record the microphone and the other track will record silence. This is because the MICRO BR is designed to record stereo microphones only.
- Press REC and then press PLAY to begin recording.
- Press STOP to end recording.
