The TM-2 has two 1/4" outputs which can be setup so each instrument in a kit can be assigned to them independently. This can be helpful if you want to have two separate isolated channels going to a live sound mixer or recording console. For example, you can have a kick instrument assigned separately to one output, and a snare instrument assigned to the other. By having them separate, you'd be able to control volume levels, adjust EQ, and/or add external effects to each instrument independently from the external mixer. This setup is achieved by using the "Pan" feature in the TM-2.
Here's how to setup the TM-2's outputs so they are separate in a Kit:
- Choose a Kit to edit.
- Press the INST button.
- Press the cursor right (>) button to choose "Pan."
- Hit the pad that you want to assign.
- Press the (+) button to choose "R15." This will pan the instrument to the right output only.
- Hit the other pad to select the next instrument.
- Press the (-) button to choose "L15" - (opposite of what you chose in Step 5).
- Now that you have panned the instruments opposite of each other, you'll also want to turn off any effects that may be active in the Kit. Here's how:
- Press the (>) button repeatedly to choose the "KIT EFFECT Type" menu.
- Press the (-) button to select "THRU."
- When you're finished, press the INST button exit. The new settings are saved in Kit automatically.
