A VS recorder stuck on “Now Loading”, not booting up or not responding to button presses could be a fragmented or corrupted hard drive. Use the following procedure to force a format of the internal hard drive. This will erase all of the data on the hard drive but could resolve the issue.
NOTE:
- There's not a way to backup the data on the hard drive if the unit will not boot up or is unresponsive unfortunately.
- The following procedure will ERASE ALL DATA on the entire drive.
- Power on while holding SHIFT and STOP. The display will read "Sys Init. Drive = U?".
- Press PARAMETER right. The display will read "Sys Physical Fmt =" . Use the TIME/VALUE Dial to select "ON".
- Press PARAMETER right. The display will read "Sys Partition =". Use the TIME/VALUE Dial to select "1000 MB".
- Press PARAMETER right. The display will read "Surface Scan =". Use the TIME/VALUE Dial to select "ON".
- Press YES. The display will read "Sys Init. IDE: U OK?". Press YES.
If the problem continues, the VS recorder will need service unfortunately. Due to the age of the product and the fact that parts are no longer available for the VS line of recorders, our service department no longer services these. You may try contacting a local service center and ask if they can service:
