The R-09HR includes a preview speaker that allows you to listen to recordings. This is a very low volume speaker that is designed to be held right up against your ear--as if you were on a phone call using a cel phone. You will not be able to clearly hear sound from the speaker unless the R-09HR's speaker is very close to the ear.
If more volume is needed, headphones or external speakers can be connected to the headphone jack of the R-09HR.
