The RD-700 can be connected to a computer so it can be integrated with music software applications. You will need a MIDI or Audio/MIDI interface to make this connection.
- MIDI Interface: Use this option if you want to control 'soft synths' in your computer, or for MIDI sequencing. You will connect the MIDI IN and MIDI OUT jacks on the back of the RD-700 to the interface, which will then connect to the computer.
- Audio Interface: Using an audio interface allows you to record the sound (audio) of the RD-700 into your computer (MIDI does not carry and audio signal). Most audio interfaces also have MIDI IN and MIDI OUT jacks so you will most likely not need both types of interface. You will connect the Left/Right output jacks on the back panel of the RD-700 to the interface (and also the MIDI IN and MIDI OUT jacks if it has MIDI connections), and then interface will connect to the computer.
Once you have selected an interface, here are the steps for setting up the connection:
- Download and install the USB driver for your the interface (if necessary).
You should use the documentation for the interface to make sure you are correctly installing any needed drivers or software for it to work correctly. - Confirm that the USB driver is installed correctly and that the computer is communicating correctly with the interface.
- On a Macintosh, look in the Audio MIDI Setup utility and confirm that the interface is listed in both the Audio and MIDI Studio windows if it is a Audio and MIDI interface, or only in the MIDI Studio window if it is a MIDI interface.
- On a PC, open the Device Manager and confirm that the interface is listed under "Sound, video, and game controllers."
- Activate or enable the interface in your music software. You will need to consult with the documentation for your specific application for this.
- Connect the RD-700 to the interface.
Below is an example of connection between the RD-700 and Rubix22:
Please use an audio cable that does not contain a built-in resistor when making an audio connection.
