The UM-ONE MK2 can be connected to a computer in two different ways, depending on the setting of the small switch labelled "COMP" or "TAB."
- COMP: This mode requires that you install a Roland driver on your computer for the UM-ONE MK2 to connect. Using this option you can take advantage of Roland's FPT processing technology which provides for faster MIDI processing speeds.
- TAB: This mode allows the UM-ONE MK2 to use the USB MIDI Driver that is built into your computers operating system, and does not require that a Roland driver be installed. This is useful if you have an OS for which there are no Roland drivers available.
Connecting using the "COMP" setting:
1. Set the small switch on the UM-ONE MK2 to the "COMP" position.
2. Download and install the UM-ONE MK2 driver for your computer and connect the UM-ONE MK2 to a USB port on your computer. You can download the latest drivers from our website here.
Make sure you download the driver that corresponds to the type of computer you have (Mac or Windows-based) and the version of operating system you are using. Once downloaded, you will need to run the setup application to install the driver into your system. This may include re-starting your computer.
3. Confirm that the USB driver is installed correctly and that the computer is communicating correctly with the UM-ONE MK2.
- On a Macintosh, look in the Audio MIDI Setup utility and confirm that the UM-ONE MK2 is listed in the MIDI Studio window.
- On a Windows PC, open the Device Manager and confirm that the UM-ONE MK2 is listed under "Sound, video, and game controllers."
4. Activate or enable the UM-ONE MK2 in your music software. You will need to consult with the documentation for your specific application for this, but usually there is a preferences menu where you will need to enable the UM-ONE MK2 so it can be used by your software.
This will allow you to transfer MIDI data between your MIDI device and the computer using the UM-ONE MK2.
Connecting using the "TAB" setting:
1. Set the small switch on the UM-ONE MK2 to the "TAB" position.
2. Connect the UM-ONE MK2 to a USB port on your computer. There is no need to download or install a driver using this setting - the UM-ONE MK2 will use the built-in USB driver in your operating system.
3. Confirm that the UM-ONE MK2 is communicating correctly with the computer.
3. Activate or enable the interface in your music software. You will need to consult with the documentation for your specific application for this.
This will allow you to transfer MIDI data between your MIDI device and the computer using the UM-ONE MK2.
