The following is a checklist to confirm the functionality of the EXP input on the DR-880:
- The EXP pedal must be the Roland EV-5, FV-500L or FV-500H. Non-Roland brands will most likely not be compatible.
- When using the FV-500L or H, be sure to use a "stereo" (TRS) cable, and that you're connected to the "EXP" output on the pedal. Make sure the MIN VOL on the side of the EXP pedal is set to "0" (not 10).
- When using the EV-5, make sure the MIN VOL knob on the side of the EXP pedal is set to "0" (not 100).
- Make sure you're connected directly to the 3/4 CTL (control) jack on the DR-880. Do not use a split cable or have any other switch connected to the same jack at the same time.
- Confirm that your guitar/bass is connected to the input and that the Guitar FX are turned on.
Note: The EXP pedal does not control the volume levels of the Drum or Bass parts. It can only be used to control the volume level of the guitar FX.
