The following article will guide through connecting and setting up an external instrument or audio device such as a keyboard, drum machine, iPod, CD player, cassette player, etc.
Note: The QUAD-CAPTURE (UA-55) driver must be installed prior to following the instructions below. You may download and install the driver for your computer's operating system here: https://www.roland.com/global/products/quad-capture/downloads/
(Installation instructions are included in the download)
Setup:
- Connect the QUAD-CAPTURE to the computer via USB.
Be sure to connect directly to the computer and not through a USB hub. - Lower the OUTPUT knob completely counter-clockwise.
- Press the DIRECT MONITOR [MONO] switch to turn it off (unlit).
- Lower the INPUT 1L and INPUT 2R SENS knob completely counter-clockwise.
- Connect the left and right audio outputs of the external stereo instrument or device to the 1/4" jacks (INPUT 1L and INPUT 2R) on the front panel of the QUAD-CAPTURE.
NOTE: Adapter cables may be needed if the external instrument does not have 1/4" outputs.
For example: RCA to 1/4" adapter cables that can be purchased at most electronic stores or online:
- Raise the volume of the external instrument from the instrument itself.
- Connect headphones to the PHONES jack or speakers to the OUTPUT 2R and 1L jacks.
Note: if speakers are connected, be sure that their power is on and their volume is down at this time.
-
Begin playing audio from the external instrument or device and slowly raise QUAD-CAPTURE's INPUT 1L and INPUT 2R knobs clockwise until its "PEAK" light on the QUAD-CAPTURE's front panel illuminates only occasionally.
-
While still playing sound from the external instrument or device, raise the QUAD-CAPTURE's OUTPUT knob to hear audio.
-
You may now setup the QUAD-CAPTURE driver within your software for recording.
Note: As each manufacturer's audio software differs from version to version, please refer to the software's current manual or the software manufacturer's online help for instructions regarding setting up their software with an audio interface (such as the QUAD-CAPTURE).
