If the a "Force Initialize" message appears when powering on the VS, then the hard drive may be fragmented. If you don't need any data on the hard drive, follow through with the forced initialize prompts that appear on the screen. This will erase all data on the hard drive.
NOTE: If the problem continues after attempting the forced initialization, then the VS will need service unfortunately.
Backing Up Data:
However, if you need to backup the data on the hard drive, the following will guide through unlocking the system in order to backup songs and then initialize the hard drive--to resolve the fragmentation:
- With the VS-2480 powered off, press and hold the TRACK/STATUS button for track 4 and the CH EDIT button for track 4 simultaneously.
- Continue to hold both buttons and turn on the VS-2480.
- Continue holding the two buttons until the system has loaded completely. This can take several minutes. - Once the system has loaded completely, release the buttons.
- Backup any projects and then format the hard drive.
- Be sure to format the hard drive because the fragmentation will not be resolved until this is done--and the issue can reappear. The following article will guide through this:
Resolving a Fragmented Hard Drive
NOTE:
If you’re unable to load and/or backup projects or partitions (e.g. your projects no longer appear in the Project List), then the hard drive is too fragmentation to function properly. In this case, please follow through with the forced initialize prompts that appear on the screen. Note that this will erase all data on the hard drive.
