The Jupiter-80 can connect to a computer so it can be integrated with music software applications. There are two ways to make this connection:
- Direct USB connection. This will use a standard USB cable connected to the square "USB COMPUTER" port on the back of the Jupiter-80 and then to a standard USB port on your computer.
or
- Connection using a MIDI or Audio/MIDI interface. This will use the MIDI In and MIDI Out ports as well as the Main Out (Left/Right) jacks on the back panel of the Jupiter-80, which will connect to the interface, and the interface will then connect to a standard USB port on your computer.
The functionality and operation of the Jupiter-80 and your computer-based application(s) will be the same no matter which type of connection you are using - the only difference is how the MIDI and Audio signals are routed.
Connecting your Jupiter-80 to a computer using the direct USB connection
Note: Windows 10 has changed the way USB drivers are installed - in most cases the driver will now be installed automatically, so there is no need for the user to download and install a driver manually.
1. On the Jupiter-80, press MENU.
2. Touch "System" on the screen, then scroll down and touch "Beep/Misc" on the screen.
3. Cursor to "USB Driver" (this is the last option on this list) and set this to "VENDER (MIDI+Audio)."
4. Touch "System Write" at the top of the screen to save this setting.
5. Power off and back on the Jupiter-80.
6. Connect the Jupiter-80 to a USB port on the computer. The driver will be automatically downloaded and installed (this normally takes 10-20 seconds for the initial installation).
7. Confirm that the USB driver is installed correctly and that the computer is communicating correctly with the Jupiter-80 - Open the Device Manager and confirm that the Jupiter-80 is listed under "Sound, video, and game controllers."
8. Activate or enable the Jupiter-80 in your music software. You will need to consult with the documentation for your specific application for this, but usually there is a preferences menu where you will need to enable the Jupiter-80 so it can be used by your software.
This will allow you to transfer both MIDI and Audio data between the Jupiter-80 and your computer.
Connecting your Jupiter-80 to a computer using a separate MIDI or Audio/MIDI interface
1. Connect the interface to the computer - this will most likely not require manually installing a USB driver, but you should check the documentation for the specific interface you are using to confirm this.
2. Confirm that the USB driver is installed correctly and that the computer is communicating correctly with the interface - Open the Device Manager and confirm that the interface is listed under "Sound, video, and game controllers."
3. Activate or enable the interface in your music software. You will need to consult with the documentation for your specific application for this.
4. Connect the Jupiter-80 to the interface (you will need 2 MIDI cables and 2 audio cables).
