The following is helpful troubleshooting and setup information for the VH-10 Hihat:
First, check and confirm that you have the cables connected correctly.
- The cable labeled "HHC" on the harness should be connected to the VH-10's Motion Sensor.
- The cable labeled "HH" should be connected to the trigger out jack on the bottom of the VH-10 pad.
While in the calibration menu in the TD-17 (SETUP > HiHat Settings > ENTER), remove the VH-10's top pad and use your fingers to push the cylinder spring-loaded mechanism on the motion sensor up and down manually. When doing this you will [should] see the indicator moving up and down between the two vertical bars in the TD-17's display.
If so, check the Hihat clutch assembly on the underside of the VH-10 pad and make sure it is making contact with this piece when you place the pad back on the Hihat stand.
Next, calibrate the VH-10 by following the Steps in this link:
VAD306: How do I calibrate the VH-10 hihat?
The offset nut may take several full rotations and may get rather tight before you see a reaction from the indicator in the TD-17's display.
If the indicator is below the left and right pointing arrows while calibrating, turn the nut clockwise to raise it. If it is above the arrows, turn the nut counterclockwise.
Note: It's possible that you may have the motion sensor mounted upside down on the hihat stand. Make sure the black spring-loaded center piece on the motion sensor is facing upwards while mounted on the hihat stand.
