If you were attempting to update your new DD-200 pedal firmware, with your macOS computer, and you receive an "ERR" message in the DD-200 display, this may be because you used the incorrect SMF player for your macOS Version. This will scramble the MIDI update data messages, out of order, and out of sequence, thus causing this firmware update "ERR" message.
To remedy this issue:
- Download, and use, the correct SMF player for your specific macOS Version, there are only two options available: https://www.boss.info/global/products/dd-200/downloads/
- Once downloaded, open the correct SMF Player app, and load the downloaded firmware update, to the SMF Player: DD-200 System Program
The MIDI update data files should all be in numerical order and in sequence when viewed in the SMF player.
For instructions using the SMF Player:- Double-click the UpdSMF icon to start it.
- In "MIDI OUT DEVICE," select the MIDI OUTPUT device installed, or in this case, we'll choose the DD-200 connected via micro USB cable to computer.
- To the right of the "SMF Folder," use the [SELECT] button to specify the folder that contains the SMF data.
- Click the "SEND" button, and the registered SMF MIDI data files, will be played back, in order.
- Power OFF the DD-200 pedal, perform a Factory Reset, then power on again in "update mode".
(For update mode: set all knobs to zero, while holding down the TIME knob/button, power ON, by connecting 1/4" TS Instrument/Guitar Cable to MONO A/INPUT). - Connect via microUSB B type to USB 2.0 A data cable (make sure to use a data cable), and connect to a USB 3.0/2.0 A port directly on your computer.
- Once the SMF Player is loaded with the firmware update:
Press SEND to begin transmitting the MIDI update data files.
The SMF Player application will send all the MIDI data files sequentially. - When the update is completed, press EXIT.
The update will take about 10 minutes, when complete the DD-200 display will show: "OK". - After a firmware update, it's good practice to also preform a Factory Reset once again.
This realigns, any data skew or issue from the update process and resets to defaults.
