If you use a commercially available USB 2.0 cable to connect the TR-8S to your computer, you can record individual instruments of the TR-8S onto tracks of your DAW via USB audio.
Perform the steps below:
- Install USB driver.
- Windows 10/11: Connect the TR-8S and your computer using a USB cable that supports data transfer. When the TR-8S is connected to your computer, the Windows 10/11 driver will automatically download from the Internet.
- macOS: You can download the USB driver corresponding to your operating system here. https://www.roland.com/global/products/tr-8s/downloads/
- Press the [UTILITY] button to make it light.
The setting screen appears. - Use the [VALUE] knob to select "USB Audio", then press the [ENTER] button.
- Use the [VALUE] knob to select the audio signals that are sent from the TR-8S to the computer via USB IN 1-2–IN 5-6.
* Selecting "INDIV" here allows you to send INST and EXT IN separately to individual audio tracks in the DAW.
* The same signals as MIX OUT are always sent to USB IN MIX.

ASGN (default): The same signals as are being output from the ASSIGNABLE OUT/TRIGGER OUT
jacks are sent to USB IN 1-6.
* USB IN 7–12 are silent. - INDIV: INST x 11 and EXT IN are output in mono to USB IN 1–12.

- On your DAW, select "TR-8S" as a USB audio device.
