It's important to calibrate the VH-10 / VH-11 within the TD-27 after initial setup of the pad. Doing so sets up the open close range of the hi-hat instruments and optimizes the trigger results. Here's how:
- Turn on the TD-27.
- Connect the cables to the hi-hat pad.
- HH cable > Output jack on the bottom of the pad.
- HHC cable > Output jack on the motion sensor of the pad.
The following video shows how to connect the cable and pad.
- Loosen the clutch screw and let the hi-hat rest naturally on the motion sensor unit. (foot off the hi-hat pedal).
- On the TD-27, press the [SYSTEM] button.
- Use the cursor buttons to highlight "TRIGGER," and then press the [ENTER] button.
- Cursor to highlight "HI-HAT," and then press the [ENTER] button.
- Confirm that "VH-10" (or VH-11) is set for the Trig Type.
- Turn the offset nut on the clutch until the indicator is lined up between the two left and right pointing arrows on the right side of the display.
If the indicator is below the arrows, turn the offset nut clockwise. If the indicator is the above the arrows, turn the nut counterclockwise.
Note that turning the offset nut may get rather tight - which is normal. You may need wrap the nut with a small terry cloth towel or something similar to get a better grip. - Once the indicator is stable between the arrows (see image), press the DRUM KIT button on the TD-27 to exit the menu, then lift the VH-10 pad and tighten the clutch. The new setting is saved in the TD-27 automatically.
