"Touch Mute" is a feature in the TAIKO-1 that lets you mute the decay of an instrument (sound) after it has been triggered. To perform Touch Mute, you gently tap the area on the head directly above one of the three specified sensors. This is a useful feature for muting the sound of instruments that have a long decay.
Here are the Steps to activate Touch Mute for one of the sensors:
- Press “MENU” (F2 button).
- Use the [∧] [∨] buttons to select “Trigger,” and then press “SELECT” (F2 button).
- The TRIGGER screen appears. - Use the [∧] [∨] buttons to select “Pad Settings,” and then press “SELECT” (F2 button).
- The PAD SETTINGS screen appears. - Strike to select the pad that you want to set.
- Use the [∧] [∨] buttons to select “Touch Mute,” then use the [+] [–] buttons to select the sensor you want to use for Touch Mute. (Value: OFF, Sensor L, Sensor UP, Sensor R)
- Use the [∧] [∨] buttons to select “Mute Sens,” then use the [+] [–] buttons to adjust the sensitivity.

- If you also want to set Touch Mute on pad 2, strike pad 2, and then repeat Steps 5 and 6. - When you're finished, press “BACK” (F1 button) several times to return to the top screen. The new settings are saved automatically.
