The following items are required to upgrade from the TD-50 to the TD-50X.
- TD-50 (Ver.1.07 or higher is recommended)
- See also the tutorial video for the version of the system program. - An SD card (an SDHC card up to 32 GB capacity, pre-formatted on the TD-50)
Points of caution regarding the upgrade
- When the upgrade is finished, the unit is initialized to the factory settings of the TD-50X, and all settings that were stored on the TD-50 are lost.
- Save any important data and settings to your SD card before upgrading. If you want to downgrade from the TD-50X to the TD-50, you can reload the settings you have saved.
- You can decide whether to migrate or delete the user samples that were imported into the TD-50 after upgrading. - The TD-50X cannot load backup data that was created on the TD-50.
- Use the TD-50 backup data only on the TD-50. - Do not use this upgrade program on products other than the TD-50. If you do, this might damage the data or system of these other devices.
Follow the steps below.
Creating an SD Card for the Upgrade
- Decompress the downloaded file.
- The “TDZ001_TD50Upg” folder appears when decompression is finished. - Copy all folders and files in the “TDZ001_TD50Upg” folder to the root directory of the SD card (the directory that displays immediately after opening the SD card).
- Copy all of the folders and files listed below.
- Do not simply copy the “TDZ001_TD50Upg” folder itself.- wave folder
- TD50X_UPA.tdz
- td50_ext_exec.bin
- Eject/remove the SD card using the method shown below.
- Windows: Use the “Remove Hardware” icon shown on the lower right corner of the screen to disconnect (eject) the SD card, and remove it from the computer.
- Mac: Drag the SD card icon into the Trash to disconnect (eject) the SD card, and remove it from the computer.
Upgrading to the TD-50X
- Turn off the TD-50.
- Insert the SD card for the upgrade into the SD card slot of the TD-50.
- Turn on the power while holding down the [REC] button. You can take your finger off the [REC] button when you see the message “== update ==”.
- Once the upgrade confirmation message appears, confirm that the update version listed is “1.00 (Build 0101).”
- If the update version differs, turn off the power, obtain the correct file and try upgrading again. - Press the [REC] button.
- This saves the license data. - Press the [REC] button again to start the upgrade.
- The upgrade process takes around 40 minutes.
- Do not turn off the TD-50 while it is upgrading. Your programs or data may be completely destroyed.
- The upgrade is finished once you see the message “WaveRom Write finished.” - Turn off the power and remove the SD card from the unit.
- Turn on the power of this unit.
- The word “Roland” appears, followed by the “INITIALIZE USER MEMORY” screen. - The TD-50X is now initialized to its factory settings (factory reset).
- If you want all user samples to also be initialized to the TD-50X factory-set state, use the [–] [+] buttons or the dial to select the “Reset with User Sample” check box. - Press the [F5] (FACTORY RESET) button.
- A confirmation message appears. - Use the cursor buttons to select “OK,” and press the [ENTER] button.
- The “Factory Reset” operation will be executed. - "When the “Factory Reset Completed!” screen appears, press the [F5] (OK) button."
- Next, configure the Auto Off and hi-hat settings.
- When the settings are completed, the TD-50X kit screen appears.
