TD-50: How to Upgrade to the TD-50X

You can upgrade the TD-50 to TD-50X specification using the TD-50X Upgrade, available through Roland Cloud.

Here's the overall flow:

1. Purchase and download the TD-50X Upgrade through Roland Cloud Manager.
   
   Note: Pricing shown as of August 2026; check Roland Cloud for current pricing.
2. Back up your TD-50 data to an SD card (SDHC, up to 32 GB).
   Custom kits cannot be reloaded after upgrading, though one-shot user samples can be reimported.
3. Create the upgrade SD card from the downloaded files.
4. Run the upgrade on the TD-50.
   This takes about 40 minutes and resets the unit to TD-50X factory settings; the TD-50X cannot load TD-50 backup data.
5. Complete the factory reset and initial setup to finish as a TD-50X.
