Updating the system program on the BOSS GX-100 can improve and add features. Details about the changes can be found in the “UPDATE HISTORY” section of the system program download page.
How to Check the Version
Before you start, check the system program version of your GX-100.
- Turn off the power.
- Turn on the power.
The version information appears in the lower-right corner of the startup screen. - After confirming the version, turn off the power.
CAUTION
- Never apply this update data to any product other than the GX-100.This update data may destroy the data or system program of other products.
- Never power-off your GX-100 while the update is in progress!
If a power failure or similar accident occurs during the update process, the GX-100 won’t be able to start up in normal operating mode. This will require servicing, so you will need to contact Roland service center near you if this occurs.
Required Items
- GX-100
- A computer with a USB connector ( Windows, macOS / OS X )
- USB cable (Ensure the cable supports data transfer)
Downloading and Unarchiving the Compressed File
- Go to UPDATES & DRIVERS and click on GX-100 System Program.
The latest version is available on this page. If your current version is older, proceed with the steps below. - Read the software license agreement at the bottom of the download page and select the "I agree" checkbox.
- Click the "Download File" button to download the system program.

Unarchive the downloaded file (gx100_sys_vXXX*.zip).
*XXX=Version number- Windows: Right-click the file and click "Extract All", then click "Extract".
- macOS: Double-click the file to unzip it.
"gx100_sys_vXXX*" folder appears.
Important: Do not rename the extracted file or folder.
Update Procedure
- Turn off the power.
- While holding down the [WRITE] button, turn on the power.
* Keep holding the button until “GX-100 Updater” appears on the display. - Connect the GX-100 to your computer using a USB cable.
- Open the “GX-100” drive.
Note: On some systems, the drive may appear as Removable Disk (*:). - Open the extracted folder (gx100_sys_vxxx) and copy all the files to the root directory of the GX-100 drive (the topmost level).
Note: xxx represents the version number. -
After the copy is complete, safely disconnect the GX-100 drive from your computer:
- Windows: See the article “Safely remove hardware in Windows” on the Microsoft website.
- macOS: Drag the GX-100 icon to the Trash icon in the Dock.
The update process starts automatically.
- When “COMPLETE” is displayed, turn off and then turn on the GX-100.
To confirm that the update was successful, check the version number as described in the “How to Check the Version” section.
