PX-1: System Program Version Update

Keep your PX-1 up to date to ensure the best performance and access to the latest features.

In cases where the 8 free Boss effects cannot be loaded onto your PX-1, update to the latest version before using the BOSS EFFECT LOADER app (iOS, Android). Also, if the message “UPDATE FAILED ERR: DATA IO” appears during the update, please try again.

Details about the changes can be found in the “UPDATE HISTORY” section of the System Program download page.

Check the current version:

1. Press the center knob.
   

2. Press the right knob several times to access the VERSION screen, and check the “APP” version.

   Example:
   

   Note: The “APP” version shown on this screen indicates the PX-1’s system program (firmware) version. Updating the system program does not change the BOSS EFFECT LOADER app version. Please update both individually to ensure you are always using the latest versions.

There are two ways to update the system program of the PX-1:

• Connect with the dedicated app "BOSS EFFECT LOADER" (iOS, Android)
• Connect to a computer (Windows, Mac)

What you need for the update:

• PX-1 unit
• AC adaptor (included)
• USB cable (data transfer supported, sold separately)
  • For connecting to a mobile device (BOSS EFFECT LOADER): Type-C to Type-C
    Note: For an iPhone with a Lightning connector, use an Apple USB-C to Lightning Cable or a USB-C to Lightning adapter (e.g., Apple USB-C to Lightning Adapter).
  • For connecting to a PC: Type-C to Type-C or Type-C to Type-A
• BOSS EFFECT LOADER app or computer (Windows or Mac)

When updating via BOSS EFFECT LOADER, follow these steps:

1. Install BOSS EFFECT LOADER on your mobile device.
2. Launch the BOSS EFFECT LOADER app.
   If you already have a Roland account, log in with your registered email address and password.
   If you do not have a Roland account, proceed to create one.
3. After logging in, tap ≡ > UPDATE in the top-right corner of the screen.
   The System Update screen appears.
4. Connect the PX-1 and your mobile device with a USB cable.
   Be sure to use a USB cable that supports data transfer.
   Always power the PX-1 using the included AC adaptor.
5. Follow the on-screen guidance to complete the update.

When updating via computer, follow these steps:

Download and extract the updater:

1. Access PX-1 UPDATES & DRIVERS and download the latest version of PX-1 System Program.

2. Unzip the downloaded file.

   Example:
   

   • Windows: Right-click the file and click "Extract All", then click "Extract".

   • macOS: Double-click the file to unzip it.
     
     A folder named “px1_sys_vXXX” appears (XXX = version number).

     Example:
     
     Note: You must not rename the extracted file. 

Update procedure:

1. Turn off the power by disconnecting the AC adaptor from the DC IN jack.
   If you are using USB power, unplug the USB cable instead.
2. While holding down the pedal switch, connect the AC adaptor to the DC IN jack.
   The power turns on, and the UPDATER screen appears.
3. Connect the PX-1’s USB port to your computer using a USB cable.
   The PX-1 appears on your computer as an external drive.
4. Open the “PX-1” drive on your computer.

5. Open the "px1_sys_vXXX" folder and drag and drop the "PX-1ROM.bin" and "ROMINFO.TXT" files to the top level of the PX-1 drive (do not place them inside any folder).

   
   *Do not copy the entire folder.

6. Confirm that copying is complete, then:
   • Windows: See "Safely remove hardware in Windows" (Microsoft site) to remove the PX-1 drive, then disconnect the USB cable.

   • Mac: Move the PX-1 icon on the desktop to Trash, and disconnect the USB cable.

     The update starts.
     Important: Do not turn off the PX-1 while the update is in progress.

7. After “UPDATE COMPLETED” appears, power the unit off and then on again.
